Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze idiom
Used when people are trying to determine whether all the hard work is worth the reward at the end.
Whatever I do, I always ask myself: "Is the juice worth the squeeze?"
A: I think you should learn another language. You know it's very hard to find a good job with your certificate these days. B: I see. But is the juice worth the squeeze? I mean I don't have a lot of time to start something new.
To take something into consideration in a thorough way
To think or consider something seriously
To think carefully and seriously or ponder about someone or something
To think about an issue or possibility thoroughly and without haste.
This expression originated around the mid-1900s. When you want to make juice, especially orange juice, you must squeeze the fruit. However, because making fresh orange juice is somewhat labor-intensive, the person must decide if the juice is worth all the work.
